2019 FREE Field Trainings and Beetle Blitzes

You are invited to attend a FREE biosurveillance field training in July.  These 1.5 hour long field trainings will provide an opportunity to learn about the EAB biosurveillance process with hands-on opportunities to try it yourself.  Equipment will be provided and participants will learn to identify the Cerceris wasp and nests and learn how to use an aerial insect net to capture the wasp and collect its beetle prey.  See the below information for the dates, times, and locations:

Beetle Blitz (same dates/locations as trainings): For those of you who have attended a training already, please come on out and help us catch as many beetles as we can at these events.  The wasps are only active for a short time (mostly during the month of July) and we’d like to capture up to 50 beetles at each site so we need your help!  And beetle collecting is so much fun to do as a group! :)

Location chart:  All of the trainings will take place on ballfields where the beetle bandit wasp has nests in the compacted sandy soil.  The sites of these trainings will all be on the ballfields at each park/school.

Dress for the weather as the workshops are held entirely outside.

The wasps are not active in the rain, so the training will be cancelled if it is raining.
